This post is going to be a little deeper, a little more bold than most. A little different side to lashes-to-lunges. But stay with me.
Have you ever heard someone say over and over how they ‘think’ they are getting sick…and what happens…a couple days later they are missing from work, at home in bed. The same is true about speaking positive things. People who speak positive things into their life, usually see that outcome eventually. Words have power. Whether we want to believe it or not. They can change your life.
In scripture it says in Mark 11:23. “I tell you the truth, if someone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.” How awesome is that? Do you believe it? I do. I have seen the power of words work in my life. The power of prayer. The bible also says “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Basically a man is what he thinks. If you think you are a winner, than you probably already have the mind of a winner, and are a winner.
The point is our words are soooo important. If you constantly tell a child they are “bad” or they are “not good at something,” chances are they will act in the way you speak. God gave us free will and we have the freedom of speech. We should use our words to speak life. We should speak what we want our children to be, our finances, our relationships and believe it. Believe its possible.
Recently our little family was challenged. Satan was trying to work his way in and cause doubt and fear into our lives. You know what we did to fight back? Saturday night we laid out a big blanket in the living room. TV was off, no distractions. Drayden gathered up all 3 of our bibles, and highlighters. We grabbed some index cards and pencils. We discussed affirmation cards. Affirmation cards are where you confirm and strongly assert things into your life that you want to happen. Things that you believe are happening and will happen. You write them down on paper and read them daily out loud. Speaking those things into existence. If you haven’t heard this before, it may sound crazy to you, I know. But faith is believing in what we cannot see.
I’ll share a line from the little man’s card so you can get an idea. “I am a warrior. A follower of God. I am happy and smart. I am a good friend to others. I always try my best and never give up…” (and yes, he thought of these on his own, we just helped him put them into sentences…seriously so proud of him!) One of Johnny’s lines from his was “I am a spirit-filled, humble man. I have passion for the vision God has for me. I guard my mind and heart from evil…” One from my card was, “I am a child of God. God grants me peace so I am never worried. I fully trust in Him. He is in control and fights my battles for me…”
It was pretty amazing doing this as a family and sharing our cards. We read them again before bed and this morning before church out loud to one another. Then church was amazing and spot on with what we were needing at the time. I could go on and on about this and how awesome it was knowing God has our back and is working in our lives, even when things seem like a struggle. It’s so crazy to me that we get wrapped up in the little messes of life when we should stand strong and sure, because God is on our side and with him anything is possible. Do you believe that? If not, start praying that you will. God wants you to have faith in Him and He will help you find it. You just have to start somewhere.
So…. for my challenge this week, I am reading my cards 3 times a day aloud (and I have 5 separate cards for 5 different areas of my life) everyday. I want this to continue as a habit but I am starting it as a challenge. I encourage you to do the same. See how what you speak can really turn into what you get.
